Location
Kempsey airport is situated on the mid north coast of New South Wales.
History
The airport is owned by the Kempsey Shire Council and was first opened on 4th December 1937.
Over it’s life the airport was serviced by several carriers, but there’s no scheduled flights operating out of there at the moment. The airport is mainly used by a flying club and there’s various private hangers and aviation businesses that operate from there. Fuel is available at the airport.
The airport used to have a grass runway (16/34) however it was closed in 2020 due to the runway being regularly unsuitable as it was prone to flooding.
Today there’s a sealed runway 04/22 and as you can see it has been patched and resealed over the years, hence I have tried to replicate the look of it in this scenery. Take a look at google maps and you will see what I mean.
Approach
Try the RNP 04 approach, it will take you near by some high terrain which then brings you via a 3.5° decent angle to a 10° offset from the runway center-line, so you’ll need turn and align 2nm before touchdown. Nice!
